In February 2021, MQ Research & Education™ and Kansas State University Personal Financial Planning faculty launched a year-long research project to examine how planner/client relationships have evolved over time. To facilitate this inquiry, the research team replicated a 2006 study that identified the communication practices that foster client trust and commitment. The Financial Planning Association®, with support from Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America (Allianz Life)*, sponsored this unique study.

The current research resulted in articles published in the December 2021 and December 2022 issues of the Journal of Financial Planning, extensive media coverage, and the development and dissemination of a comprehensive whitepaper presented in seven chapters:

The datasets resulting from this study are now available publicly for researchers, academics, and others to access for educational and research purposes.
